CyberProof 2025 Global Threat Intelligence Report: Mapping Threats and Trends

Authors: Liora Ziv & Nethaniel Ribco

The cyber threat landscape is constantly shifting, and 2024 proved to be a year of significant escalation across multiple fronts. Over the last few months, our Cyber Threat Research Team has dived into the critical threats that defined the past year, drawing out top trends and recommendations in the annual report 2025 Global Threat Intelligence: Mapping  Threats and Trends.

In this year’s report, you’ll discover how geopolitical tensions, advancing ransomware tactics, and the rise of supply chain attacks have shaped the global security landscape.  Here is just a small subset of the key trends observed:

Geopolitical Conflicts and Cyber Warfare

Geopolitical conflicts have increasingly spilled over into the cyber domain, with state-sponsored groups and hacktivists using cyber operations as an integral tool. These attacks aim to disrupt essential services, instill fear, destabilize economies, and exert political pressure.

This year’s report findings explore how state-sponsored groups and hacktivists leverage global conflicts to target critical sectors. As well as how elections have become prime targets for cyber interference, with state-sponsored groups exploiting these events to influence public sentiment and undermine democratic processes.

The Relentless Rise of Ransomware

Ransomware attacks were a dominant threat in 2024, with a significant increase in both frequency and severity. In the first half of 2024 alone, ransomware generated a record-breaking $450 million in revenue for cybercriminals. The collaboration between APT groups and ransomware groups blurred the lines between state-sponsored activity and financially motivated cybercrime, intensifying the reach and impact of ransomware across industries.

Some key topics covered include:

  • Healthcare Sector Under Siege
  • Collaboration Between APTs and Ransomware Groups
  • Evolution of Extortion Tactics

Supply Chain Cyber Threats

Supply chain cyberattacks emerged as one of the most significant threats to global cybersecurity in 2024, increasing by 68% compared to 2023. These attacks exploit the interconnected nature of modern digital ecosystems, leveraging trusted relationships between vendors, suppliers, and their customers to infiltrate downstream systems.

Some of the largest and most well-known cybersecurity breaches have been due to these supply chain disruptions that often lead to significant financial losses for more than one entity involved. Supply chain attacks are successful because attackers often target less secure elements in the supply chain, such as vendors, software, or hardware to steal data, spread malware, or disrupt operations. The increase in the number of supply chain touchpoints will continue to pose new threats and make supply chain attacks more commonplace.
